Vitamin E -Are all Brands the Same?

What is Vitamin E?

Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin that acts as an antioxidant for the body.  Free radicals, unavoidable in everyday life in many forms such as pollution and other toxins, enter the body and can harm cells, tissues and organs, including your body’s lifeline, the heart.

They also play a large role in aging conditions, especially visible signs such as wrinkles.  Antioxidants are the body’s warriors against these free radicals, protecting the cells by providing electrons needed to stabilize cell membranes.

In addition to neutralizing free radicals, Vitamin E also helps the body absorb other essential vitamins such as Vitamin K, which helps the body maintain and produce strong bones, and Vitamin C, which helps the immune system work properly.  Vitamin E also helps regulate retinol (commonly known as Vitamin A) levels, which are essential for healthy skin and proper vision.

Vitamin E provides essential functions in cellular respiration of muscles and vital production of biological energy.  The end result of all of these functions (neutralizing free radicals and aiding the absorption of essential vitamins), makes Vitamin E a strong supporter of heart, prostate, lung, colon, and immune health.

Unfortunately, many Vitamin E supplements on the market today do not provide the necessary purity of Vitamin E and taking a  real vitamin E which includes four tocopherols and four tocotrienols (alpha, beta, gamma, and delta).  These inadequate products can actually be harmful and reverse the intended effects.

Don’t forget tocotrienols are necessary for fighting cancers making cancer cells commit suicide and stopping metastases. In fact, tocotrienols have been shown to stop the growth of human breast cancer cells, improve blood pressure, prevent abnormal clotting, improve diabetes and much more. Name one medication that does all of that! Instead we have cardiologists and oncologists who have never heard of tocotrienols and do not prescribe this absolutely necessary nutrient to people who need it the most.

One of the other parts of vitamin E, gamma tocopherol  as well as the gamma tocotrienol are usually low in patients with coronary heart disease. Be careful that you stay away from plain generic “vitamin E” (which is usually synthetic alpha-tocopherol) which actually lowers the gamma tocotrienols. Always check your Vitamin E and see if it only contains alpha-tocopherol, one of 8 parts of vitamin that you see advertised on TV because they will drive down the other forms of E that are not in it. Get rid of it.

Shaklee’s High Vitamin E Standards

Shaklee’s Vita-E and Vita-E Complex contain all the required elements to optimize vitamin E so that it works at its best capacity, giving you the highest standard in health results.  Shaklee uses mixed tocopherols, whereas most vitamin E supplements only contain DL-alpha tocopherol.  This is because this form is the least costly to produce.

However, supplements containing only this tocopherol have no benefits to the user and can actually reduce other naturally produced tocopherols, creating an opposite effect.  A supplement with mixed tocopherols (found in Shaklee’s Vita-E and Vita-E Complex) contains beta, delta, and the most important, gamma tocopherols.  Mixed together, these “sub” tocopherols aid the alpha in its antioxidation process.  A mixture of tocopherols also proves to be more effective in preventing free radical damage and preventing disease.

Unlike other supplements that are effective even if synthetically produced, Vitamin E must be a natural product to work its magic.  Natural forms of vitamin E (found in Shaklee’s Vita-E and Vita-E Complex) contain only D forms of tocopherols and tocotrienols (another important part of Vitamin E).  Synthetic forms of Vitamin E contain a mixture of D and L forms of tocopherols and tocotrienols.  Many supplement producers do not go to the expense of isolating the D form, creating a Vitamin E supplement that is significantly less effective.

Shaklee’s Vita-E® and Vita-E Complex®

As with all of it’s nutritional supplements, Shaklee puts a great deal of research and development into each of its products to ensure maximum results.  Vitamin E is most effective when it’s composed of mixed tocopherols (D only), and produced naturally.  both the Vita-E and Vita-E Complex meet these important requirements.  According to the former president of the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) and current Shaklee Scientific Advisory Board Member Annette Dickinson, Ph.D., “Vitamin E is essential for life and health, and most Americans don’t get enough from diet alone.  Supplements can fill that gap as well as provide the higher levels of vitamin E that have been shown to be beneficial in promoting health and protecting against some diseases.”

PS Did you know that a full spectrum of Vitamin E with the tocotrienols is effective as a statin drug  for cholesterol control? The statin drugs like Lipitor work by poisoning the gene that controls the enzyme in the liver to make cholesterol, HMG CoA reductase.

The tocotrienols, however, control the same enzyme but without poisoning your gene and without poisoning your selenium, zinc, vitamin E, DHA and other crucial nutrients. And they do it without producing potentially lethal joint and muscular aches (lethal statin-induced rhabdomyelitis) or producing sudden amnesia (which could cause a fatal car accident) or hurrying you toward cardiovascular disease, cancers, Alzheimer’s and more
