Are your Statin Drugs Depleting Your Vitamin D Levels?

Stain Drugs that your Doctor may give you for lowering cholesterol has a plethera of side affects that are well known; liver damage, memory loss, muscle weakness and CoQ10 depletion to mention a few.

But did ou know that Statins also prevent the the formation of vitamin D which causes muscle pain and more.

Vitamin D is a fat soluable vitamin and needs fat namely cholesterol for the formation of Vitamin D. Just like your brain needs fat or cholesterol to function properly. That is why some people who are on cholesterol lowering meds find themselves forgetting things more easily.

If you decide to take statin drugs you may end up with a deficiency of CoQ10 which also causes muscles to be weak (also remember your heart is a muscle as well)

So what are the primary conditions associated with inadequate Vitamin D and adverse effects of statin drugs:

  •  Inadequate Vitamin D
  • Myopathy (muscle pain)
  • Osteomalacia (bone softness)
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  •  Diabetes
  • Increases some cancers

Obviously taking statin drugs have implications for serious health conditions which can eminate from a deficiency of Vitamin D and CotQ10. I. Unfortunately, drug companies and doctors are too near sighted because they do not focus on the whole patient just the symptom or condition and forget that you have to look at the body as a whole.

Statins  inhibit the enzyme, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor. This enzyme is critical for the manufacture of cholesterol in the liver. Cholesterol, in spite of modern medicine’s treating it like something that is poison, is a critical substance, required for a wide range of body functions. One of them is the manufacture of Vitamin D. So one should not be surprised to have health issues associated with inadequate Vitamin D levels.

Obviously Western medicine  paid for by big pharmaceutical companies decide on what cholesterol levels are healthy. Western medicine becomes like the mechanic. Only replacing the damaged part rather than like the gardner who looks at a plant and decides why it is not thriving. Unless the body has a genetic defect, the body produces more cholesterol for a reason.

So you might say, well if I take a Statin drug then I will just add extra Vitamin D and Co10. Of course it would. But let me ask you a question. Wouldn’t it be better to ask medical science to search for the real causes of diseases and stop trying to just deal with the symptoms. Use the example of I used above. The mechanic being western medicine or the gardener holistic medicine.

By the way elderly people really do better with high choleterols. Dr. Uffe Ravnskov, MD, PhD wrote an article for the Weston Price foundation cites the fact that

Dr. Harlan Krumholz of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University, who reported in 1994 that old people with low cholesterol died twice as often from a heart attack as did old people with a high cholesterol.1

Supporters of the cholesterol campaign consistently ignore his observation, or consider it as a rare exception, produced by chance among a huge number of studies finding the opposite.

Okay what if you do want to lower your cholesterol and do it naturally. Shaklee Corporation makes a natural product that uses Stanols and Sterols called Cholesterol Reduction Complex These plant molecules mimic cholesterol receptor sites and fill in those sites that cholesterol would normally fill.
